Used architecturally as well as in automobiles, it consists of two or more panes of glass separated by a plastic film. If the pane breaks, the film ensures, through its adhesion to the glass surfaces that the glass will continue to adhere to the glass surface rather than falling out.

This component structure is assembled and laminated under pressure at an elevated temperature.

The resultant product not only provides a transparent view, but adds safety, sound insulation, solar energy control, ultra violet screening, structural loading, and hurricane and earthquake protection.

ITS MANY ADVANTAGES INCLUDE:

Safety.

Because it possesses a resistance to falling out if broken, its physical properties typically make it an ideal candidate for safety glazing. Its resiliency and adhesion offer excellent architectural properties in vertical and slopped glazing applications that require resistance to penetration and thus remain intact.

Security.

This unique property of resisting penetration also provides protection against forced entry and burglary. In fact, multiple layers of glass and interlayer increases the resistance to attempted penetrations. In stringent security areas and application, specific design specifications are required to meet both time and defined resistance needed to prevent or delay forced entry.

Ultra Violent radiation: where protection of UV I s considered. Laminated Glass can selectively and effectively filter the shorter wave lengths of UV radiation.

Acoustical control. The interlayer, or laminate, thought its “viscoelastic” property offers a reduction in sound transmission. For this reason, laminated glass is used in airports, hotels, offices, schools, and wherever sound dampening is required.

Structural glazing.

Characteristically, laminated glass exhibits the same structural integrity as monolithic glass, under most loading application. However, its likelihood of fallout, in the event of cracking, is much less likely and can thus retain a considerable amount of strength, until appropriately repaired.
