Rochester Insulated Glass, Inc., produces insulating units under full certification status. RIG provides a double seal insulating unit compromised of POLYISOBUTYLENE and silicone. For “butt” glazing, or for that matter any type of glazing, these materials in conjunction with each other represent the best in the latest state of the art for insulating glass units. Polyisobutylene still represents the best man made material available for the express purpose of providing an effective barrier against moisture.

On its own, however, it does not contain adequate physical properties to structurally retain a comprehensive force necessary to keep the glass firmly and tightly together against air space. This force is now provided by an effective material, silicone. With the addition of silicone, not only did the required comprehensive forces be more than met, but an outstanding water barrier prevalent within its physical properties also come out with its use.
